STANZ WIRED Newsletter #8 Winter 2022

June 19, 2022

Kia ora & Welcome

When it comes to putting STANZ Newsletters together one of the most amazing things is that there is always another new story or event popping up that’s important and needs to be included. This can make it difficult to stop and just go with what is and this time is no exception. Our feature article this time is written by our own Louise Thwaites a STANZ Committee Member on how to stop having an electricity Smart meter installed on your property.

Notable recent news is the release of the English version of the book Phonegate by Dr Marc Arazi which documents how dangerous cell phones are to our health. Indeed, as the other newsletter articles go on to show up to 3% of the population can badly affected by Electro Hypersensitivity (EHS) not to mention drive us to distraction.

Associate Professor John Cook a clinical psychologist states in his new book, ‘Death by Technology’ says that our love affair with technology goes way beyond the practical and into another realm altogether. He says that people’s blind faith in technology and the way they prioritise it in their lives is a kind of deification. ‘The new religion of the modern age is technology,’ he says. The careless addiction to Cell phones and other wireless communication technologies are harming our physical and mental health causing a silent epidemic of EHS suffering not to mention damage to our environment and contributing to the worsening effects of climate change.

While it is clear to see the evidence for how dangerous wireless communication systems can be to our health big tech Telcos and the government blunder along this dangerous path which promises many benefits, but never allows discussion of the terrible price that must be paid personally and environmentally.

STANZ is the only civil society organisation in NZ promoting a sane discussion of how we need safer wireless technologies that meet basic needs without endangering our health or the environment. We hope that you will join us by becoming a member as we ramp up the public awareness campaign in the coming months to promote awareness for the need for safer wireless technology.
