STANZ SPRING NEWSLETTER  –  #14 Spring 2024

November 12, 2024

Kia ora & Welcome To the latest edition of the STANZ newsletter as we continue our mission to raise awareness about the impact of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) on health and the environment. This newsletter highlights some of the latest information that can be found on our website. This spring we have three main topics of focus for this newsletter:

  1. Upcoming public talk with Andy Hooley on EMF Solutions
  2. EHS as a Humanitarian Crisis
  3. New research by Senior European scientists reporting that people living near cell phone towers show changes in their genetic makeup.

These topics plus much more in this newsletter and on our website.

1. LET’S TALK EMF SOLUTIONS – Saturday, 30 November

Back by popular demand due to the overwhelming success of our last public talk led by EMF Consultant Andy Hooley we are doing it all again.

Venue: Brilin Centre, 8 Settlers Cres. Ferrymead, Christchurch.

Date: Saturday, 30th Nov 2024.

Time: 2pm – 4pm.

Entry fee: Koha.

2. Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity: A Humanitarian Crisis

Electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) is an emerging public health concern that is affecting an increasing number of people worldwide. Individuals with EHS report a range of debilitating symptoms that are triggered by exposure to EMR, including from mobile phones, Wi-Fi, and electrical appliances. Despite the lack of official recognition in many countries, the growing number of EHS cases highlights the urgent need for greater understanding, support, and policy change.

The distress and disability associated with EHS is being increasingly recognised by numerous social, scientific and medical organisations (WHO, 2004). According to the European Commission’s EESC 2019 Report on Digitalization: Challenge for Europe, “Each day the number of EHS sufferers increases: according to new estimates, between 3% and 5% of the population are electro-sensitive, meaning that some 13 million Europeans may suffer from this syndrome, which has various names: electro-sensitivity, Wi-Fi syndrome, microwave syndrome, electromagnetic hypersensitivity, etc.”  As these technologies continue to expand, the incidence of EHS will grow.

Many of these exposures are involuntary and now inescapable. Common outcomes of this are job, school and home loss, separation from family and friends, inability to access medical care and general lack of access to all areas of the public domain. The unmitigated, neglected widespread disruption of lives is inhumane and deeply troubling.

3. Cell Tower Radiation and Genetic Changes in Nearby Residents

New scientific research has uncovered worrying evidence linking radiation from mobile phone towers to genetic changes in nearby residents. Studies show that prolonged exposure to low-level EMR can lead to cellular damage, potentially increasing the risk of a variety of health issues, including cancer. A team led by Wilhelm Mosgöller of the Medical University of Vienna and Igor Belyaev of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava contend that years of low-dose RF exposure can increase the incidence of a number of different types of chromosomal aberrations. Such changes could lead to serious, though uncertain, health consequences, including cancer and neurological disease. (Chromosomes are strands of DNA coiled around proteins.)

The new study is small —but provocative. It’s persuaded Mosgöller and Belyaev that they may have identified a “biologically plausible mechanism” for how RF radiation can cause cancer.
